Last night I attended the second night of Fashion Houston 2013. This was my first year going to the biggest fashion week in Houston, and contrasting from other runway shows like NYFW, Paris Fashion Week, etc it’s runway selections available for purchase now. Floral prints, black & white, rib and mid drift dominated the stage this year. I was so impressed with the collection of designers that showcased at the event. I was so excited to see my old favorites Rebecca Taylor and Nicole Miller and wIth much anticipation I saw the stylings of new to me designers,Cut 25 and Bibhu Mohapatra. I was also fortunate enough to be in attendance for the only men’s line to strut the stage this week, Peter Millar.
First up was Indian-American designer, Bibhu Mohapatra. The designers ready to wear collection was said to be inspired by his long time friend and ballerina. He used many bold prints o a blank white canvas. He used hot orange, pale pink, sage, black and coral in asymmetrical pleated garments within his classic skater, shift and tulip shapes. His embellished garments adorned 3D daisies a top nude canvas. Vast and beautiful.

Next debuted the only men’s line of Fashion Houston. Peter Millar by Chris Knott is a casual sports, tailored dress, and golf attire. Peter Millar represents a lifestyle brand to make every moment an occasion. This modern brand keeps men stylish while comfortable in the office as well as on the golf course.

My long time favorite, Rebecca Taylor, hit the runway after the men’s line. Jadapa and my adorable nephew, Jadan, got to personally talk with the New Zealand born designer back in October at Saks 5th Ave in Phoenix, Arizona. She told Jadapa how being a mother is extremely tiring but extremely rewarding. Funny, Jadapa and Rebecca swapped “mommy” stories (her son is the same age as Jadapa’s) instead of fashion secrets! My nephew loved her, he skipped around the clothing racks and asked about her for the rest of the day. Too sweet!

The fresh and feminine style of Rebecca Taylor‘s RTW line sported lightly colored floral patterns and reigns the crop top style trend. Rebecca incorporated 90’s street style in to her fresh and modern apparel.Taylor hit another outstanding line with this spring collection.

Cut 25 by gorgeous designer, Yigal Arouel is cleverly named for his style and craftsmanship when making his designs. He is said to only make 25 items in a collection therefore constantly stating the phrase “cut 25”. Yigal is known world wide and is an award winning designer, is self taught and pays great attention to detail. His line is described as high fashion with day to day simplicity This was one of my favorite shows of the evening.

The night rounded out with the newest collection by legendary designer, Nicole Miller. The iconic designer is been known for her shades of black and /or bold color choices. Miller focuses her collections on the cuts of fabric ensuring a formflattering fit. Her lines which contain lounge wear to gowns has been celebrated since the 80’s. Her stylings in this RTW collection included mix matched prints and patterns, distressed pants and textured floral embellishments that only managed to add to each piece, never overpowering it. Her rebellious looks for this line have the functionality to be worn to so many types of events and can be easily dressed up or down.
